# Authentication and workspace access

> Sign in to the correct workspace and use the permissions assigned to you.

Open your workspace URL and follow its sign-in flow. If you received an invitation,
use that invitation to complete the account setup and join the intended workspace.

Access is bound to a workspace. Being signed in elsewhere does not grant access to
another workspace's data. Contact your workspace administrator if you are directed
to an unexpected workspace or cannot see the information you need.

## Permissions

Your assigned permissions determine which features you can use:

* **Read access** lets you review available records, signals and evidence.
* **Configuration access** enables supported rule and workflow changes.
* **Administrator access** includes workspace integration and access controls.

Source-provider permissions apply separately. A workspace administrator may still
need approval from the owner of a connected HubSpot or Microsoft account.

## API credentials

Use the authentication requirements shown in the API reference for the endpoint
you intend to call. API access must be enabled for your workspace and scoped to the
operation you need. Keep credentials in your application's secret storage and use
HTTPS for remote requests.

Browser sign-in and provider consent are different steps. The credentials used to
connect a source do not become a general-purpose Gather API credential.

## Access problems

An expired session requires sign-in again. If access was removed, contact your
workspace administrator. If an integration needs consent again, reconnect through
the workspace's integration settings and review the requested permissions.
